A practical guide for the human-centered use and selective integration of AI in education. Rather than prescribing when to use AI, the framework gives teachers and students a shared vocabulary and clear map for making intentional, ethical choices.
Two Core Principles
The Five Levels
- Human Thinking & Discovery Students engage in a learning task alone, without AI support. This preserves the foundational cognitive work that builds understanding and skill.
- Utilizing AI for Planning & Research Students chart their own ideas, with AI supporting through the planning, outlining, and research process. The ideas remain theirs.
- Maximizing Ideas with AI Students use AI as a thought partner to generate ideas they will fully develop on their own. AI sparks possibilities; students do the work.
- AI Feedforward Students use AI to get feedforward, suggestions and possibilities for enhancing their work before final submission.
- New AI-Created Elements Students use AI to create new elements that expand their learning, focusing on work outside their main learning goals.
Learning Experience Analyzer (LEA)
What began as a practical tool for teachers evolved into a school-wide data system. Paste any learning activity and LEA analyzes it in real time against multiple frameworks simultaneously, generating specific, time-bounded improvement recommendations.

My AI Philosophy
Human-Centered Technology
I believe AI should empower teachers, not replace them or overwhelm them with guilt. My goal is for every teacher to be able to say "I want to use AI" or "I don't want to use AI", and have a clear, confident reason for either choice.
The surprising discovery from 8+ months of LEA implementation: "not using AI" was the most popular and pedagogically valuable choice. That insight reshaped everything.
